London@feddit.uk•Police probe 'death to IDF' chants led by Bobby Vylan at al-Quds rallyEnglish
3·3 months agoQuds Day = Iran Day
For centuries, the Iranian elites have been very self-conscious about the fact they are only shia country. Most muslim countries are sunni. Shias are the black sheep of the muslim world. The genius of the Ayatollah regime was to invent Quds Day (Jerusalem Day).
Here is how that works.
On Quds Day, in every city in Iran, government officials organize street protests. They ask military families and civil servants to protest in the streets. Everyone is to wave Iranian flags and scream “Death to Israel”. They also burn Israeli flags and say stuff like “Soon, Jerusalem will be back in muslim hands thanks to Iran”. Most Iranians don’t speak arabic, but the government prints signs in arabic.
Around the islamic world, many people love that shit. It’s basically religious porn. The Pakistani taxi driver or your factory worker in Egypt sees these Quds day vids on facebook. His immediate reaction? "Wow…Iran is so wonderful :3" or "Mashallah, I fucking love Iran"
It’s the one political trick that Iranian elites found to become popular in the sunni world. They desperately want to be admired/respected by sunnis. If Israel didn’t exist, these people would want to invent it.
If they were really honest, they would not call it Quds Day. They would call it Iranian soft-power day.

17·3 months agoAbsolutely fantastic job from Democracy for Sale 👏👏👏
They were the ones who originally reported that Josh Simons broke the law. The Guardian and other papers only quoted them.

Congratulations. Democracy for Sale just took down a powerful politician from office. Quality journalism matters.

United Kingdom@feddit.uk•Guardian joins media coalition to protect original journalism from unpaid use by AIEnglish
3·3 months agoI love Carole Cadwalladr but don’t let perfect be the enemy of good.
1. Most of The Guardian funding comes from readers. I give money every year. But readers only aren’t enough to sustain it. They also need to look for other revenue sources.
2. There is no evidence that she was fired specifically because Open AI requested it. That would be a major scandal and the entire newsroom would revolt.
3. The Guardian remains an excellent newspaper. They won more journalism awards than any other UK paper.

He’s still in the House of Lords. Corrupt and treasonous.

1. Ranjeet Brar is not just a random doctor. He is a politician. He is the general secretary of the Communist Party of Great Britain (Marxist-Leninist).
2. He is not a peace activist. His party praised Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine. He is also not against Genocide. He publically said that he is fine with Genocide, as long as Israelis are the targets.
3. The Middle East Monitor is an extremely controversial media organization
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Middle_East_Monitor
They regularly publish absolute non-sense.
For instance, they said Israel flooded Gaza by open dam gates:

Except there is no dam at all in the region.
