Fuck! My first account was on lemmy.ee which passed away a few months ago. My second account was on lemmynsfw thinking the presence of porn would be a guarantee of its sustainability. It’s like been banned twice from Reddit.
I liked leaving non sexual comments in the NSFW content. Like I would comment on the room decor.

They defend it now, one piece sub had a of girl post a cosplay, mod removed it because she had of links in profile, top post was them hating on the mod saying shes just an innocent fan who happens to have an of business lmao, I got the same hate getting a girls post removed on raves and she had posts asking about were to buy fetanyl before she started posting of posts to support her addiction. They come in acting innocent, but they’ve turned themselves into a business, so even when they aren’t actively advertising they are advertising, since they are walking advertisements for their of business and think like that when approaching things.

Admin that had access to the server went AWOL in October and now the server has died.
The sheer risk of running NSFW servers in this post-OSA timeline, I wouldn’t be surprised if they just homer-simpson’d into the bushes, and waited for it to all be over.
If I had a nickel for every Lemmy admin of a big instance who went missing I would have two nickels.
Which isnt a lot but its weird its happened twice.
What is the other admin that went MIA?
He was the admin of feddit.de. I think he went on a work trip to SE Asia and was never seen again. First technical problems troubled the instance until nobody paid for the server and domain anymore. Now the new feddit.org is governed by a non-profit with multiple admins.

I did some rough math on this and that would be the least of the worries. The cost of hosting a nsfw instance would easily be $500-$1000 per month.
Which leaves me wondering if part of it going down was funding.

It’s “absent without official leave”, meaning they don’t have permission from the chain of command to be absent from their post (which is literally just wherever they are supposed to be).
It’s not a matter of saying you’ll be gone and when you’ll be back, it’s a matter of having official permission to be away from your duties (aka leave). They won’t get you for it for being off-base in your free time, but if you are off-base on THEIR time, then you are AWOL. You can also be AWOL without actually going anywhere, like if you are sick and stay in bed without contacting your superior, or medical for a chit, very likely considered AWOL .

How do you sort? I default sort “top 12 hours” and i usually get them by page 2 or 3
I sort by ”top day” and when I start seeing nudes I know it’s time for a break—usually takes at least an hour if not 2 or 3
It also might have been because of upvotes. Lemmynsfw hid them for users on their instance therefore posts there weren’t up voted much unless other instance accounts did
I sort “Active” (Voyager app) whatever that means. Infinite scrolling. Admitedly I don’t scroll very far down.
Nsfw typically arent receiving a lot of comments. Wont show in “active” usually.

Oh. For some reason, I was convinced I’d already checked and found that feddit.org had NOT blocked lemmynsfw. I just checked again and it has. Sh.itjust.works hasn’t blocked it though. Huh?
Depens on sort type (Active/Hot/etc, which might even be affected by your instance, not sure if or how much, but at least with lemm.ee it was the same) … and how much you scroll (and maybe if you have hiding read posts enabled).
I usually find them when sorting by new and all, mostly because of those bots that spam reddit nsfw reposts on several comms per post
As an instance admin myself, I’m so confused… If you went through the effort of setting up an instance, the effort of transferring all the access and stuff to someone else would be nothing. Just seems super weird to disappear without a trace and without handing it over to someone else.
the lemmy nsfw admin had previously asked if anyone was willing to take ownership of the instance because it was too much mental overhead to moderate a space that could sometimes get dicey and be legally liable for what was hosted on the server. there were no takers. the fact that this admin has been silent leads me to believe that this was not an active choice and instead something away from the keyboard led to this, be that legal, personal, or mental concerns that took priority over something they already felt no one would take on based on previously asking

Well if that is true, then that’s completely fair. If they looked for someone to take it and nobody did, then there should be no surprise that it is gone now. You can be sad about it but not too sad, you should’ve just taken up the charge yourself then.
