minus-squareShrubbery@piefed.sociallinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up64·2 days agoBeing able to time travel implies he could also jump forward in time (e.g. to check his posthumous reputation).
minus-squareTachyonTele@piefed.sociallinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up23·2 days agoGoing forward is sadly the only way we can time travel. I explained this to Stephen in a couple weeks.
minus-squareElgenzay@lemmy.mllinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up30arrow-down1·2 days agoBut why does Stephen Hawking not being able to time travel mean time travel doesn’t exist?
minus-squarecorvi@piefed.sociallinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up40arrow-down1·2 days agoProbably a reference to his “time travelers party”, a tongue-in-cheek way he used to suggest backwards time travel is impossible
minus-squareagamemnonymous@sh.itjust.workslinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up25arrow-down1·2 days agoMaybe no one came to his party because they knew he was on the list
minus-squareRestrictedAccount@lemmy.worldlinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up4·2 days agoOr maybe the time travelers went back and faked his name onto the list as a prank.
minus-squareElgenzay@lemmy.mllinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up2·2 days agoAh right, so they would have given him the technology to do so i guess is what it’s implying
minus-squareUnspecificGravity@piefed.sociallinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up3·2 days agoWhy would they do that, they know he’s on the list.
minus-squareqarbone@lemmy.worldlinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up3·edit-21 day agoYeah…a time traveller would be able to jump forward less backward in time to check that. But Stephen Hawking wasn’t a time traveller, he just wanted time travellers to visit him.
minus-squareAsfalttikyntaja@sopuli.xyzlinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up2·2 days agoI want to jump over this time period to get a better time in future.
minus-squarewolframhydroxide@sh.itjust.workslinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up2·1 day agoWell, all you need to do is travel at a significant fraction of the speed of light. That will let you fast-forward the rest of non-relativistic reality. Then it’s just a matter of slowing down again.
