I just got my pre-order of the Jolla Phone confirmed. I was super stoked on having a European Linux Based phone.

However Motorola announced collaboration with Graphene during this period.

I am really torn, I love Motorolas and have used them for the last five years. Also Graphene seems a bit more open source and secure ad I’ve always said I would switch the instant they launched on a non-google phone.

Does anyone here have input on this, or maybe suggestions for a certain comm where this question would find better ground? (I didn’t want to ask os specific comms as that would be unbecoming)

How polished of an experience do you need? AFAIK there is no esim support with Jolla phones yet, which is crucial for me.

At this moment there is no real competition to GrapheneOS in terms of privacy, security, and overall maturity. I would suggest to buy a second hand Pixel 7a or newer.

If you can please also keep supporting Linux alternatives. I wish there was more political will to fund alternatives outside the US

Great points. Im adamant in not buying a pixel, so that’s out.

I wan’t to support Jolla, yet I really want to get aboard the Moto. That could be a year out, though, but supporting both is a bit rich for my blood. Hence the question.

The used Pixel recommendation was just a short-term quick-fix until the Motorola becomes available, while still making sure to not give any money to Google. Once the Motorola is available it could go back to secondary market.

I respect if you don’t want to deal with Pixel devices at all though. Then Jolla might be the better way. If Jolla does everything you need right now I would say go for it. Maybe look up some in-depth review videos to make sure beforehand.

Played around with the PinePhone, but was not yet ready to be my daily driver ~2 years ago. Currently only GrapheneOS does everything that I need from a daily driver - exceptionally well. Which forces me to use Pixel devices. I’ll happily switch to Motorola once that’s out.
