It’s pretty ridiculous. The Lethal Weapon shit was hilarious and the gang was shown as idiots for doing that. Same for Taiwan Tammy and the other insanely racist charicatures Dee did.

    1. I think they should do exactly that “This episode has some racist stuff we were stupid in making. Sorry” and keep it available
    2. Doing satire about blackface in the 00s was about as timely and relevant to issues at the time as making satires about railway tycoons would have been.
    3. If for some reason you still wanted to do this, you shoudn’t have actually done it
3.5) If you were depicting a fantasy race, just use a shade of “grey-black” not “brown-black” to differentiate the inhuman character
    4. The only thing that did it properly was Spike Lee’s “Bamboozled” since it’s a black director giving his own opinion on black culture.
    5. for some reason, 30 rock did it multiple fucking times, and the only good one was John Hamm, since :

    1. The context was showing tv shows evolving over time
    2. The makeup was done poorly on purpose
    3. Contrasting the usually stupid Tracy and having him be dignified with “I IS DONE STOLE THIS CATFISH” was actually fucking hilarious.

The examples of blackface among American politicians as well around that time (and I’m sure continuing) are abundant. It wasn’t just JT, and IASIP was right to call them out on it in the satirical fashion that was relevant at the time. It’s not their fault that some of the audience they reached were idiots that took it as “haha blackface funny” rather than “haha idiots that do blackface seriously are fucking idiots”. We’ve seen through the whole run of their show how some fans have and continue to miss the point that these are assholes and you’re not meant to want to be like them or do the things they do.
