We already have infrastructure for transmitting and storing electricity. These methods are also more efficient and convenient than building nuclear reactors (which require steam turbines and hazardous material).

For cars, all this infrastructure would result in a lot of extra weight and safety features. Much more efficient to have it be done somewhere else at scale and sent to cars directly.
