I thought Nostr sounded interesting so I checked it out. Turns out it’s just crypto bros stroking each other over there. No thanks.

Of course they are.

The only stumbling block I have found is that I have a couple accounts where my email address is my sign on and it cannot be changed. I would need to set up a new account with my new email address.

Other than that, it’s been like you said. A bit daunting at first but one day I’ll break that chain and never look back.

I have gmail forwarding my email to my new account outside of Google. I have a “Gmail” folder on my non-Google account where all these forwarded emails get dropped.

I have been updating my email address on these forwarded emails for over a year. I’ve had this gmail address since gmail started so it’s taking some time. It is a process but I am winning.

Usenet still exists but there isn’t much going on these days. 99.9% of groups are completely dead but there are some that hang on. Even those have low posting numbers but not zero, so I’ll take it.

I have started going back to forums and RSS feeds when I can find them. Most of the forums though are pretty dead. I have even started using Usenet again for actual text newsgroups.

I am hoping for a bit of a resurgence as more people move away from algorithmic social media but I won’t hold my breathe on that.

This drives me crazy. At least give me a description for your YouTube link so I can decide if it interests me. “Check this out” isn’t good enough, give me a bloody reason.
