Yup its exactly this. And with supply shortages, itll take a while to filter down in price unfortunately.

In a sense, its the system functioning as it should. If you have a healthy democratic society with good principals, juries should acquit people for things that may be crimes but are perfectly reasonable and justified.
I feel gig work locks you into a cycle of poverty and dependence. It’s not transferable experience and it usually locks you into car ownership. Not sustainable for getting into the workforce.
Lots of people end up on welfare and in social housing under similar situations. We stigmatize those people so much that it never enters public discourse in the same way.
People who are unhoused tend to have even more severe difficulties resulting in that situation.

An app is always a red flag, especially if it’s the only way you can interact with the device.

We could live without anything that uses ads to “sustain” itself. Nobody hosting ads on their service is doing so to “maintain” themselves. They just want profit for their labour… they are entitled too, but its a business choice, never a necessity.
And yeah if I use something, I’ll always pay for no ads. Ads cost so much more of our lifespans and contribute so fucking little to those that host them. Garbage.
I respect your take, but I think it is wrong.

Who’s houses are the datacenters being built next to?

I think Ai hate might be the single most unifying position in the west right now.

Most people didn’t even trust algorithmic automation before agents came along. lol

Some transit channels have uploaded mirrors to PeerTube but the numbers are minuscule compared to their Youtube channels.

Cynically though… they’ve been peddling nothing for two decades now. Big data, the cloud, SAAS, web 3.0, metaverse, nfts, llms, there’s always a new nothing born.

They are all going into debt over datacenters. Google issued new shares… how? why? They all make so much money and still they can’t cashflow this expansion.
What blood will there be to take?

Or his pivot to threads?

Yeah, that’s the neat part about servers, they don’t necessarily need to be snappy. Most of what it does is background work and it doesn’t have anything else to do. DDR3 and DDR4 get the job done just as well, and save you a buck.
My NAS has 16gb of ddr3 ecc, it has 10tb of ZFS pools and it runs an embedded OS. No problems with that. Not going to use it to host Gitlab lol, but it gets the job done for what it has to do.

Farming equipment is a particularly annoying one, that and construction vehicles, are becoming increasingly locked down by proprietary software and impossible to maintain yourself. You can’t even employ mechanics outside the dealer network in some instances and it will be more so in the future.

Do you really need 64gb though? Do you want a PCIe in a low wattage, low air circulation mini PC? Are you running a docker swarm of VMs within the same system? Why?
What’s your use case for this?
You won’t get Local LLMs if the PSU is minuscule. Best get a big old workstation with good cooling. Fried motherboards overloading them with local LLMs. That stuff is mean on hardware.

16gb is still fine for most people.

I think that’s how it went down for most people.
I remember getting free games with Gold back on the 360 and One. Eventually they became unplayable without the subscription. Kinda enshitified.
There’s just something about your progression being tied to a subscription that makes you want to invest less in the game.
Cool nice shit costs money sometimes. You can’t really consider this device from a regular value standpoint. Its unique.
They also give you 24 games within the price of the device. At say $5-$10 a pop, its decent value for the games alone.
