Electric Vehicles@slrpnk.net•China Starts Sea Trials for Largest Electric-Powered ContainershipEnglish
5·12 days agoIt says the batteries are in 10 shipping containers. One TEU containers has an internal volume of 33 cubic metres, so 330 in total.
Even a small two-storey, four-unit apartment building is around 1000 cubic metres in total volume, so the batteries are only about a third of an apartment building at most.

Meta (slrpnk.net)@slrpnk.net•SLRPNK Community Discussion - March 2026English
2·13 days agoAre there methods of browsing/usage that could be used to reduce load on the servers? In particular, I’m wondering about stuff like subscribing to communities on other instances. I don’t know much about ActivityPub, but assume subscribing to federated communities via a given server result in increased network/storage requirement on that server, to pull the external posts and comments?

Electric Vehicles@slrpnk.net•Want a safe car? Crash tests say you should go electricEnglish
13·2 months agoFires in Petrol/Diesel vehicles are about 20 times more likely than in EVs.
More data from Norway - at the time 28.3% of cars in the country were electric but they were involved in only 7.4% of total vehicle fires. More data in the article shows that the rate is decreasing too.

That’s a good idea, thanks. This was my first time using PyWaffle so probably rushed things a bit.
