“to call the victim’s family on her behalf to gauge their reaction. He said he did so.”

To me, this was always going to happen.
Who could root for a national team that features the Tkachuk brothers? They’ve been awful for years. They’re the type of players that unapologetically ruin hockey.

I have genuinely never understood it.
People heard the horror stories, and not only were they like “yeah I’ll do that,” they wanted to eventually do it to others.
I think it might just be for the sight gag of the snake’s skeleton, but I could be wrong.
It’s hard to think of something sillier than having a snake skeleton as a jumpscare from a closet, while also making it somewhat straightforward to draw.

Bye Bye Blackbird is considered a popular “standard,” which makes a lot of sense for a The Far Side.
Someone created a group (a nonprofit, a political action committee, or something similar) with basically no public presence except for a bland website and a few tweets. It has launched millions in pro-ICE ads, and, at least so far, no one behind the venture has been willing to talk about it.
Ideally, in a democracy, we’d know who is spending millions trying to change public opinion on the secret police. But, in the American system, that’s just not how it works.
I laughed out loud when I finally realized what band was saying this.
Humorously, the lead singer is named Jim (Adkins), but the band’s name comes from the backing vocalist/guitarist Tom’s brother, also named Jim.
The band’s name came from a crayon drawing made after an incident between [Tom] Linton’s younger brothers, Jim and Ed Linton, who fought frequently. Jim usually won, but Ed sought revenge by drawing a picture of Jim shoving the Earth into his mouth; Ed captioned the picture “Jimmy eat world”.

In 1986, investigators for the United States Congress and Department of Defense reported growing concern in the U.S. Armed Forces over missing weapons. Hundreds of millions of dollars in military arms, ammunition, and explosives had disappeared.
A congressional report on Fort Bragg cited a large amount of missing ordnance recovered around the post, including 148 pounds of plastic explosives, 142 pounds of TNT, 1,080 feet of detonating cord, 13 hand grenades, and 35 antipersonnel land mines. Some of the weapons and explosives turned up in private homes.

I have to imagine desperate soldiers might take to selling it instead.
I believe that most of the knowledge worth having is found in books, and book critics have a vital function in introducing the public to important books
I agree with the first part, but I have never once read a book review by a newspaper critic. I never find them of value, I’d rather read almost anyone else’s review.
I read a lot of books, but this type of book critic is not as valuable as the author claims.
