I installed LineageOS on my Motorola and the data connection stops working… restored back to factory rom and it starts working again
So I guess if you really want to use it as a wifi-only device, sure
or daily drive 2 phones with one of them on the factory rom to use as a hotspot for the other one running Lineage

As much as we hate it, google is the only one who has any power to prevent abuse of the stupid, elderly and gullible. Someone has too.
Not far enough. We should require a government agent to be with people to verify there isn’t any fraud before allowing any money transactions to happen.
Wanna buy food at the grocery store? Please wait for your assigned NSA agent to verify that you’re not being scammed.
(Is /s even needed?)

Not trying to be pessimistic: But Good luck with the linux phone when carriers start doing whitelisting like ATT already does
(Unless you wanna dual-phone?)

Ew fuck CCP.
Also are they really sending their only-children to war lmao? Imagine the outrage if the parenta lose their only child, their bloodline would be over.

Quite fitting actually, since NYC just elected a Democratic Socialist to lead

It is likely UEFI secure boot.
Linux Mint is signed by Microsoft…

By this logic: If you get falsely convicted of a crime, you now have a free pass to commit one free crime, as a treat.
So, to those that got falsely convicted by this injustice system: It’s your time to do something very funny. 😏

Its a few random European languages in a trenchcoat

casually CHOMPS on my pet cow

Nature made us this way. Life exist by eating other life, that’s how it is. Blame god/universe for it.

Funny how English has
“Beef”, “Pork”, “Lamb”
when in some languages its just
[The Word for the Animal]+[The Word for “Meat”]
Literally, your language influences how you think.
My “native” languages are Cantonese and Mandarin and I always knew where the meat came from, like its literally in the word itself. [牛肉,豬肉,羊肉]

Exactly, China filters their Internet. Just like Facebook and Twitter do. Instead of being at the whims of two rich individuals it’s at the whim of the government.
Not that one is better than the other, but US users experience the same (from a technical standpoint, not ideologically) kind of filtering but they’re not told that it is the great Zuck firewall or the great Elon firewall even though it is used in the same way to filter topics and ideas that the owner doesn’t like.
The US doesn’t really block VPNs or many websites. I can access Baidu and QQ stuff in the US without a VPN. My parents regularly use WeChat here in the US without a VPN. In contrast, in China you can’t access a lot of western sites like Facebook/Twitter/Wikipedia, and, intermittently, Reddit, gets blocked without a VPN, and VPNs are much more difficult to obtain and use in China compared to the US.
As for Facebook/Twitter censorship, that’s on the people. They could easily switch to alternative platforms without using any VPNs but they just choose not to.

Different. Iran’s proposal would, if enacted, literally makes communications to the outside world impossible, since they are literally disconnecting the internet from the outside. It’s more like North Korea. In constrast, VPNs are still a thing in China… for now at least. Not every western site gets blocked. There’s a Chinese lemmy instance btw. Information flows in and out of China all the time.

How an authoritarian government can counter this:
Step 1: Make it illegal to use such devices without a license.
Step 2: Refuse to issue radio licenses except to maybe law enforcement and high ranking governmwnt officials
Step 3: Triangulate “unauthorized users”
Step 4: Mass arrests

Friendly fire.
I’m not gonna “join the NSDAP” and have that permanently tainting my name just for the off chance of getting that document to “expose” them… which probably wouldn’t do much if there is zero resistance.

Yo I swear to god.
So I got arrested for “aggravated assult” because I defended myself against a racist bully in highschool
And you know what the fuck did my mom do, start fucking discussing about the details of case during the parent meeting thing.
And also like literally the next day when I had to go to the juvenile court system thing, my mom keeps saying a bunch of shit to the court staff, WHO IS NOT THE PUBLIC DEFENDER BTW.
Mom wtf, are your stupid. Are you TRYING to fuck it up even more? Shut the fuck up.
Literally I keep trying to tell her to shut the fuck up, stoping mentioning details other than just simply deny the allegations.
(Charges ended up dropped)
Also btw, I start using a non-english language to talk to my mom (cuz English isn’t our Native Language) and the court staff immediately got more aggressive with their tone and treated me as though I was conspiring with mom about something. And they demanded for us to use English. Xenophobic pieces of shit court system.
I’m glad I had Citizenship, the system would literally attempt to deport a minor over a school fight. Cruel as fuck.

If you were already planning on using a specific carrier, buying a locked phone is cheaper.
Like for a extremely frugal example:
A Samsung Galaxy A15 is $200, a locked version can be as low as $60. Still the same 5 year security updates (presumably, unless the carrier fucks with it).
But if you were gonna use X carrier from the start, then then it doesn’t cost you extra. You can still use that cheap plan same as if you BYOD. And it used to unlock in 60 days, so before this policy took effect, you could just switch carriers after 2 months.
