Lemmy@lemmy.ml•[Help Design Lemmy] How to describe Lemmy in a single Sentence?English
1·2 days ago“Discuss interesting topics and join communities on the Fediverse.”
IMO it’s better than “link aggregator” because we don’t only share links here, but also images and text.

Lemmy@lemmy.ml•[Help Design Lemmy] Joinlemmy website and New User OnboardingEnglish
1·3 days agoAlso it would be neat if instance admins could automatically set a certain set of “subscribed instances/communities” and “blocked instances/communities” for each new user that signs up on their instance. That would make it easier for instances to give themselves a certain “flavor” so users have an easier time finding interesting stuff.

Lemmy@lemmy.ml•[Help Design Lemmy] Joinlemmy website and New User OnboardingEnglish
1·3 days agoHow about the instance selection wizard (click “join a server” on the homepage), which lets you select topics and languages to select instances. Do the current options make sense?
I do think the “topic”/“language” selection screens make sense overall.
Also what i noticed is that on http://join-lemmy.org/ when you select certain topics (like “Art/literature” and “german speaking”), then the resulting instance list is empty. It might be wise to show at least one instance for every search query, even if it’s not 100% fit. For example, at least display one generic-topic instance for your language or one english-language instance for your topic.

1·3 days agoOne user told me they got to https://join-lemmy.org/docs/users/01-getting-started.html when they tried to sign up instead of to https://join-lemmy.org/ so maybe it would be good to have an easily-visible link there that brings you to the main landing page?

Fediverse memes@feddit.uk•It does technically work, but it just looks wrongEnglish
7·3 days ago/u/user@instance.tld and /c/comm@instance.tld are better because they work automatically, no need for special handling if you’re using the web frontend. and also the same should be done for posts so it automatically opens the post on your own instance instead of redirecting you to another website.

Lefty Memes@lemmy.dbzer0.com•"It's Russia's fault that America is bad. We're becoming like the Chinese. What is this, North Korea?"English
7·3 days agoPeople seemingly love blaming others for their problems so they can avoid saying "well, maybe we’re the problem. This is called “unifying the nation against an external enemy” and it shouldn’t work this well, but it does. Russia was picked out as a target because it allows 2-in-1: unify the country against an external enemy, to present oneself as the “strong protector of home” and also distract from internal problems, but also attack the East at the same time.
you really should put an /s to that
i never said i support the democrats. in fact i don’t. sorry if it came across that way.
no graceful transition is opted for
transition to what, exactly? i think people might have vastly different opinions about this, so it’s not easy to just go to a new thing
Instead they follow the same route as all the empires of old, increasing violence and desperation practically guaranteeing hatred and reprisal when they are crippled and broken.
When you are about to die yourself, do you just let it happen or do you struggle and try to fight against it?
