It is likely UEFI secure boot. Mint is not compatible with dual booting like this. Try Vanilla Ubuntu or Fedora to start. They have loaders with a secure boot shim key that should just work. You may have further troubles if you have Nvidia stuff. Fedora is pretty well sorted. They have the steam stuff too.
