    Is it really worse than down here? Let them waste space, time, and less water / electricity daily here on the planet for this crap. Saying this I should really check out the video and not just post…

    Yea so article mentions nothing about this. Let these people waste their money. I’d rather see this. Then no local subsidies or tax breaks or whatever for property used. No constant over consumption of water / electricity like a local data center. No acoustic / other disturbance to local areas where new data centers being built. I really can’t wait for this stupid AI fad to break. Unfortunately seems like it’s going to be here to stay.

    For this illustration, we picked a configuration with an aggregate 1 GW of capacity
    The total cost of the satellite network would be around US $51 billion, including launch and five years of operational expenses; a comparable terrestrial system would cost about $16 billion over the same period.

    So, for just a bit over 3 times the cost, you can have a data center which is exposed to a whole lot of risks we likely don’t know how to account for or mitigate yet. Sounds like a great idea for the techbros to burn more money on.
