To anyone who knows more about this: does this actually do anything particularly unique to avoid collecting user data, or is it basically just “trust us bro” and we just need to rely on the privacy policy and so on? It seems like DuckDuckGo but European everything (and with more of an AI focus) from my reading here.

Me: What is the truth behind xprivo? Xprivo: I’m not sure what “xprivo” refers to.

    Good, no self awareness! 😁

Why are we calling an AIChat a search engine now?

I want a search engine that provides me with some clickable links to relevant websites.

Edit: I mean look at this… It literally tells me to use another search engine that I’m trying to avoid??:

    HELLLLLOOOO!?!?

Those deep reflexive responses evolved to save our lives. Be cautious, and observant before over-riding safety measures.

Also above the text box with the AI chat. It’s quicker than Claude though so I’m assuming it’s not as processor intensive which is a good thing for quick shizz.

What is the business model? The way they emphasize AI features, it sounds venture capital-ish and thus prone to enshittification.

This has a lot of potential. So apparently they use their own + European Search Perspective indexes. The ESP was built by Ecosia and Qwant I believe. Will be testing out whether it’s any good. Most search engines use bing or google under the hood, having something independent and still being decent is not easy. Last I checked only Brave had something remotely usable and independent but even then it was not that good. Kagi uses their own but still rely heavily on bing / google.

First impressions the site itself is pretty polished, at least from the UI side of things.

Seems like they have a PRO and PLUS services. PRO is 8 eur a month and gives access to more expensive LLM models. So far they offer Qwen 3, Kimi 2.5, Mistral 3, GPT 5.2, Gemini 3 PRO. Not bad, especially in this price range though I suspect eventually they will introduce some tighter limits on the usage for this price point as it most likely won’t be sustainable.

The pricing is way better than whatever Kagi offers. Which is 10$ / month and you can only use smaller models.

I wonder if the LLM’s themselves (the open source ones) hosted in the EU as well? Would also love for them to include other open source models like Gemma 4 26B, Deepseek v4 Flash / Pro, GPT 20B and push people to use the smaller open source models instead of relying on proprietary ones.

Will also be looking into their privacy claims and whether it’s not just “trust me bro”. I saw someone mention they were also planning on making the search open source or something ?

    https://www.old.reddit.com/r/xprivo/comments/1rq52ka/comment/o9ppycu/ , but havent delivered.

I have to say though looking really good.

    The query

    anti-fascism

results in funny results. The first page has absolutely nothing about fascism (nor anti-fascism) and it’s only when you click on “show me more” that you actually get anti-fascism results.
