Considering what’s going on in Belfast, I’m sure that won’t cause any problems anywhere else in the UK.

Same here in the states! Except there are flags in front of essentially every business. You can barely go 3 blocks without seeing multiple american flags. It’s really quite silly. But, a person wearing clothes with an american flag is definitely a (pun intended) huge red flag. I’m sure there are exceptions but from my experience, those are usually the worst people.
Over there, is it more the English flag or the union jack? Or is it a mix of both?

Literally the exact same talking points that have existed for 100+ years. It’s crazy it still works as well as it does.

What do you mean? I think we’re doing great. Sure, it’s tough to afford to live and there seem to be more people walking along the sides of the highways than before, but I think we’re moving in the right direction. /s

As an american, I am genuinely curious: are there really that many people in England who are looking over here and saying, “That looks good. Let’s do that”? I don’t understand why Reform is making such huge gains.

What a fucking div

I’m in and from the US and can confirm it is awful and incredibly taxing on the mental health of the sane.

Yeah I thought this was a rare positive action from him.

As an american, I apologize on behalf of these people. I know things aren’t going great over there for you guys too but I very much want to hop over and not come back.

At least your nonce is being kind of punished a little. Our nonces over here in the US get to keep doing what they were doing like nothing happened.

That’s an interesting point and I think you maybe phrased how I’ve felt about twitter and twitter style social media as compared to lemmy/reddit sites. I agree with you there 100%.

I never really even thought to research that much. I scanned the different instances. I joined into privacysafe.social - it seemed fine. Being that I have only been on it for a few hours and have only followed 9 accounts, I can’t say I’ve noticed many issues regarding my feed at this point. Although I wish I could organize my feed by newest first. It doesn’t seem to be that way by default. I have just had a couple minor bugs with profile pages loading strangely.

Oh wow. That’s great to hear! I have, since commenting, set up an account myself. App seems a little bit buggy but, I don’t plan on being on it a lot. I appreciate the interesting feedback from you and the others who took the time to reply.

Asking genuinely: do people still use Mastodon? It boomed briefly when Musky took twitter but for whatever reason, people decided to go to the data harvesting, ad filled blue sky. I never got either of them but have been recently thinking of mastodon but assumed people don’t still use it.

Should be illegal, yes. I’m from the US and my partner and I a few months back looked up videos about Manchester because we want to go on a trip there eventually and we came across an uploader who seems to linger around outside of clubs to film women who don’t seem to be aware he is recording them. It is really creepy and gross.

I need to expand my exposure to British rappers so thank you. I love The Streets and mostly enjoy Stormzy but aside from that, I don’t know much. This is solid

Exactly. We can’t have universal healthcare but we can have a TRILLION dollar defense budget. Great! And on top of that, our “president” also is getting European countries to increase their defense spending which will eat away at social programs so, that’s cool too. Who needs to directly help improve the quality of life for people when we can have more bombs?

Just like here in the states, I have talked to a lot of people who firmly believe universal healthcare is not possible here because we can’t afford it. The brainwashing from the people in power with all of the money telling us we can’t have basic things is pretty crazy.

You mean London is expensive? Who could’ve known?!
If anything, it’s antisemitic to equate the Jewish people to Israel and pretend criticizing Israel is criticizing Jews. I’m an american and I am strongly opposed to the things happening here as well as in the UK. But that doesn’t mean I by default hate americans/Brits because I am against what the governments are doing. That’s really dumb.
Some liberals here in the states are also conflating them to the point where they say progressive candidates running with the platform that they are not accepting money from AIPAC is antisemitic. It’s mind boggling to me how one comes to these thoughts.
